Michel Georges, Professor of Animal Genomics, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Liège and WELBIO investigator, director of the GIGA-Genetics and 2008 Francqui Prize laureate, is one of the 21 new foreign members elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Vascular anomalies are localized defects of vascular and/or lymphatic vessels with various presentations. Up to 10% of the population is affected, mostly due to the commonness of infantile hemangioma.

WELBIO announced the name of the 8 laureates of its second call for projects, in a press conference held in the presence of the Minister Jean-Claude Marcourt and of the representative of the Minister Jean-Marc Nollet, Amélie Servotte, and of Jean Stéphenne, President of WELBIO. The projects include topics on obesity, type 2 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma and cystic fibrosis. These projects join the 15 programmes, laureates of the previous call, that were renewed.
