WELBIO is pleased to announce a "Bridge grant" has been awarded to Dr Roger, Principal Investigator at the « Institut de Recherche en Biologie Humaine et Moléculaire » (Université Libre de Bruxelles). The WELBIO Bridge fund is intended for WELBIO investigators and designed to bridge the gap between early stage research and the valorisation of the research findings (patent application, technology transfer, applied research project).
Cancers are at least in part diseases of cell cycle regulation. It is therefore essential to understand the mechanisms of cell cycle regulation and, in particular, to identify modifications occurring in cancer pathologies. This understanding can lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches blocking cancerous cell proliferation. Prof. Roger’s WELBIO project 2011-2015 has led to a better understanding of the regulation of cyclin-dependent kinases CDK4 and CDK6. A specific post-translational modification could be associated with responsiveness to cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor.
The WELBIO Bridge grant awarded to Dr. Roger for a duration of 18 months will support his laboratory in progressing towards the development of diagnostic tools that would predict the responsiveness of patients to cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors, a novel class of anticancer drug.
